A New Look for the Office

Well it was about time the office got a new look. It has been pretty much the same since we moved in back in March! I really did not have a problem with the way things were organized, but after having them be that way for so long it was time for a change. Also changing things around can help out productivity. If you are so used to the same thing it gets very boring and can hurt your motivation. If you change things up it makes you feel like you are in a new place and allows you to be more motivated. So before I show you how I changed things take a look at what the office used to look like. As you can see the 2 desks are put together to make 1 big desk.

As I said I was tired of this setup so I took the desks apart and took off the round ends. That way I could put the desks up against the window. Although I do lose some desk space by doing this I still like it better. One thing I really like about the change is that I get a lot of window space. Since I have 2 monitors I really did not get to look out my window much. Not my monitors are more in the corner of the room so there really is nothing blocking my view out the window. Also by moving things around it gives me a lot more room to work on my test machines in the middle of the room. Before the desks were taking up a lot of the space. Here is a picture of the new setup and my side of the office. Let me know what you think.

I gotta say that I like the original setup better. Im not a big fan of having my back against the door or entry way, so I think I would like the first setup better.

Great computer setup, everything looks so clean, but if you’re like me…it would get messy soon. :)

One solid crash into the desk and you may be shopping for a new printer.

Yeah, I’m kind of with Shawn, I kind of like the other set up better. But I definitely have to agree with you on the productivity too. Sometimes switching things up helps productivity with me a lot too.

If you need the space in the middle of the room, it’s perfect. If you’d rather look at each other when you’re both working and perhaps move the printer elsewhere so you can use the stubby end of the table structure to do things, then the old one is probably better.

Lol…Loving the printer set up as a bridge to both tables, wonder what your girl has to say about this.

Those are Ikea tables right? I got the same, they have pieces to put in between the tables, atleast here in Sweden, dunno if you got the same over there.

I like it better. It appears to give you a lot more space to work considering the room isn’t all that big.

Don’t you think you should do something about the wires which are just hanging from here and there. I guess if your conceal them or hide them under something the whole set up would look more spacious and clutter free. Otherwise the new set up looks good.

A Staple gun and some plastic wire straps is what you need to clean up those wires . . . i agree with leo and think the old setup was better . . . but i can see this working . . . another workstation contest? ;)

I had to do this too. It is weird how a little change in ones work space can change your production ; )

My new computer area consists of a gate (LOL) so my 2 year old doesn’t climb on me like a jungle gym while I work. It has been so much better now, hehe ~ who knew a gate could bring me freedom and success. You made a good point here.

Both of the setup’s look pretty bad.

In the 2nd setup, You have a scanner in between 2 desks that looks like it’s about to fall down.

Seriously stick to your daytime job and leave the fengshui to some else.
