Frzy Boy Go Music Video Shoot

Some of you may know that I work with a few different artists in the Pittsburgh area. One of them is Frzy, a rapper who has become a very close friend of mine. I have been helping him out with social media and other internet related things. A couple of weeks ago he was shooting a video for his new song “Boy Go” and he asked me to come along and be in the video. So I showed up and it was a lot of fun and a great experience.

I had never been to a music video shoot before so I did not know what to expect. I think the weirdest thing was having to get makeup done. Everyone at the shoot had to get makeup done, even the guys. The shoot started at 9PM and we were there to about 6AM so it was a long night, but it was a lot of fun! Here are some photos I took when I was at the shoot.

Schenley Park Photo Walk – Late Summer

A couple of week ago I went to Schenley Park to do a photo walk. Photo walk’s are always fun because they are a great way to experience a place or event. Since I’ve moved, Schenley Park is a 5 minute walk so I’m always over there running and taking photos. I would consider it late summer since most of the trees have not turned yet. Hopefully I will be able to do another photo walk in the fall when the trees have all turned. Anyways check out all of the photos from my photo walk below!

PodCamp Pittsburgh 6

PodCamp Pittsburgh 6 was this past weekend and it was a blast! PodCamp is a free conference that is put on to teach people about blogging, social media, podcasting and much more. I didn’t attend PodCamp last year so I was interested to see what sessions there would be this year. PodCamp started on Saturday and there were sessions from 9am to noon then lunch. I ended up going out the night before so I made it down to PodCamp around noon, just in time for lunch!

At lunch I met up with Jerimiah and Kelly. At lunch they had a huge projector screen showing everyone tweeting about the event. We sat down and ended up meeting some other cool people like Thomas and Amy. This is what is so great about PodCamp is you meet so many great people who are interested in the same thing as you and it is so easy to strike up a conversation with people. After lunch I went to the rest of the sessions during the day.

During each hour block there are up to 5 different sessions so you had to pick the one your really wanted to go to. Most of the sessions I went to throughout the weekend were about social media, but I did attend a few on blogging as well. Out of all the sessions I did attend my favorite was the Myths About Social Media with Justin Kownacki. He has been working in social media for a while now and it was great to hear some of his insights.

Once again PodCamp Pittsburgh was a great event and I am glad I attended this year! If there is a PodCamp in your area I highly suggest you attend!

Clique Vodka 1 Year Anniversary Party!

I can’t believe it has been a year since Clique Vodka launched! Clique Vodka was started by some of my close friends and the company and vodka brand has really grown over the past year! They have gone from not being in any stores to being all over the Pittsburgh area, now moving in to the Philly area with expansion in to other states coming soon. The spirits industry is one of the most difficult to get into and they have done a lot in just 1 year!

Just like last year they had their 1 year anniversary party at the PPG Aquarium. It really gives you a different atmosphere than say a club or hotel banquet room would. There are not many places you can enjoy drinks and check out penguins at the same time. This year at the party they really stepped things up with multiple drink stations showing off the different things you can do with Clique Vodka. There were 2 DJ’s playing great music and this year they added a photo booth, which was a real hit! Now only did you get your photo right there but one was e-mail you as well. Here is just one photo from my many trips to the photo booth during the night!

The night was filled with drinking, fun, and great conversations with many friends. To give you a better idea of what went on check out the video below.

Again this was one of the best times I’ve had all year, the guys at Clique really know how to throw a great party! Congrats to them on their 1 year anniversary and I can’t wait for the next one! You can learn more about Clique Vodka on their website and also be sure to follow them on twitter!

The I Am Still Music Tour Pittsburgh

A few weeks ago Pittsburgh hosted the I Am Still Music Tour featuring Lloyd, Keri Hilson, Far East Movement, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne. Recently I have been working with a local rapper named Frzy and he was picked to play at the VIP tent so of course he asked me to come along. I had no idea Live Nation was going to hook us up with a VIP box to watch the concert! The seats were perfect and I was really excited because I am a fan of most of the performers, especially Rick Ross. I really like Far East Movement’s “Rocketeer” song. They performed it as their last song with Lloyd.

My favorite performer of the entire concert was Rick Ross, I’ve been listening to him for the past 4 years and it was great to see him live. Here are 2 of his songs…

Lil Wayne went on last as he was the headliner of the show. His set was the longest and the stage effects and setup was really cool. At one point in the show they lowered a bridge down so he could come up in to the crowd. He was literally 5 feet from us!

The concert was awesome and a great was to relieve some of the stress of getting ready to move. More on that in a future blog post…

Some Hidden Gems in Highland Park

I am lucky enough to live right beside one of the biggest parks in the city of Pittsburgh, Highland Park. If you didn’t know Pittsburgh has many city parks and they are great places to get away from the office. For me living right next to one is very convenient, that way I can just walk across the street and get a run in or explore the park. One thing that really sets Highland Park apart from other Pittsburgh city parks is the large reservoir in the center of the park. They have made a track that goes around the entire thing, which is perfect for running or walking. In this post I wanted to talk about some of the hidden gems of the park. These are things that some people might not find the first few times they visit the park. I have been going to the park on a daily basis to run (more on that in another post). The first gem I want to talk about is a path the goes back through the woods. This path is great, especially on a nice day. Walking or running through the woods gives you a great atmosphere and is just simply relaxing. I’ve never seen anyone else on this path all of the times I’ve been to the park.

As you go along the path you will end up at a little creek that comes down from the hill. There are multiple waterfalls and a cool wooden bridge that goes across it. The first time I stumbled upon this I was amazed. It’s like in the movies when they are going through the jungle and come upon a waterfall or something like that. The bridge does not look out of place and fits in perfect with the scenery as well.

The last gem is the tunnel. I’m not sure when this tunnel was built, but it looks pretty old. It is actually a really cool spot and the first time you see it, it sort of sneaks up on you.

A Great Memorial Day Weekend!

Memorial day weekend is a huge deal here in Pittsburgh. It really marks the start of summer and the weather is usually great. For this reason many people have cookout’s and there is always so much do to around the city. For the past 5 years Faded Industry has held the white party. Just like the name says the idea of the white party is for everyone to wear white. I actually went to the white party for the first time last year and I definitely was going this year! I’m really good friends with the guys from Faded Industry so they invited me on a party bus. We took the party bus around the entire city before we went to Diesel, where the event was being help. We filmed the entire thing, check out the video below.

The white party was so much fun and after watching the video above I’m sure you will want to go next year! You can check out all my photos from the white party here.

After recovering from the white party I decided to have a party at my place. The last one I had was a huge success so why not have another one. About 50 people showed up and it was a great time. The party lasted to about 5am! I guess my friends know how to have a good time!

Memorial day this year was great and I hope I have more weekends like this over the short summer we have here in Pittsburgh!

Pittsburgh Bucket List Launched

I’m sure many of you have heard of bucket list’s. They are lists of things you would want to do before you die or before you move away etc. After doing some research I found there was not really a bucket list that was specific to Pittsburgh. So I decided to make a Pittsburgh Bucket List website.

I first came up with my list. The idea was that I would be leaving Pittsburgh for good in 1 year. Of course that is not the case, but that this the premise of the website. I first came up with 16 things I would want to do before I would leave Pittsburgh for good. This is not a large list, but it is a start. I want to get the list up to 100 items!

I love to try new things and I always love going new places. This bucket list is a great way to experience new things and share them with people. Each time I complete something on the list I will be blogging about it so you can experience it as well.

The site was really easy to make. It is based off WordPress and the layout was a free one I found online. Any feedback on the site would be great!

Checking out Refresh Pittsburgh

Refresh Pittsburgh is a is a community of designers and developers working to refresh the creative, technical, and professional culture of Internet designers and developers in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. I had actually never heard of Refresh Pittsburgh before my friend Kelly mentioned it to me. I’m always down to check out new tech meetups and events in Pittsburgh so I decided to check it out.

The April meetup was held at Left Field Meeting Space, which has to be one of the coolest meeting spaces that I’ve been to in Pittsburgh! It definitely had one of the coolest couches that I’ve ever seen!

Each meetup has a few different speakers talking about various topics. The first speaker was Jay Fanelli who is the co-founder and designer at Full Stop, a Pittsburgh web design and development shop. His talk titled, “Stop Hating Your Clients” was all about choosing the right clients. It was very insightful and made perfect sense I know I’ve taken work sometimes that I have regretted.

The second speaker was Jon Dascola, his talk was titled, “If you are in the shit up to your neck, the only thing you can do is sing”. He talked about taking pride in your work and doing small things that can make your project stand out from others. He had great examples and really made me understand that the littlest things can make a difference.

I really enjoyed that meetup and I will probably be going to another one in the future. It is always great to meet with people in the same space and talk about different issues we encounter.

Pho Van

One of my favorite types of food has to be Vietnamese food, more specifically Pho. Living in Pittsburgh there really is not a large selection of places to get Pho. I’ve already told you about Pho Minh, Vietnam’s Pho and Lulu’s Noodles. Well there is a new Pho place is town called Pho Van!

I actually found out about Pho Van through Groupon, where they were offering a $20 gift certificate for $10. Obviously I had to get it and check this new Pho place out! Pho Van is located 2120 Penn Ave. in the Strip District. The first time I went there I went with fellow ThinkComputers staff member Colin. We have been to many different Pho places together. I decided to order the #24, which is combination beef. They let you pick 3 different types of beef, I decided on rare eye of round, well done brisket and tripe.

I’ve had a lot of Pho from many different places and I was quite impressed with Pho Van! The broth tasted excellent and the meat was perfect. I like that I was able to pick 3 different types of meat as well. The #24 Pho combination was only $9 and you can’t beat that! I’ve been back to Pho Van twice since my first visit and if you like tea I would really suggest getting their Dragon Eye Oolong tea. It has to be some of the best tea I’ve ever had! If you are in the Strip and are looking for some great food definitely check out Pho Van!
