It used to be that if you wanted to get a link on another blog you had to exchange links and usually the only people that would list you on their blog would be your friends. You can see on the side of my I have a list of my friends blogs. Well now you can get listed on a ton of blogs. John Reese, internet entrepreneur has created BlogRush, which is a blog syndication network. It is a great idea and an easy way to bring extra traffic to your blog.

How it works is you install a widget on the side of your page, which you can see on the side of my page. Everyone who is part of BlogRush has the widget on their page. So say you get 1000 visitors a day, that’s 1000 syndication credits. Also if your refer someone to BlogRush you get credits for each one of their visitors. So if they get 500 visitors you have a total of 1500 credits. What do these credits give you?

The syndication credits are used to broadcast your blog on other bloggers pages in the widget. As you can see in the widget on my page there are headlines from other bloggers pages. Since the referral ratio is 1:1 it is really easy to earn credits and get linked on popular blogs. John Chow and ShoeMoney are already on BlogRush along with a ton of other blogs so hurry up and sign up!

Blogrush is not yet ready for prime time. Even the very large blogs are reporting little traffic as a result. It is even worse on the smaller blogs. They will need to make it a requirement to have the widget above the fold in a top spot - similiar to what TLA does. I decided to remove it again - I was losing too many visitors, but got nobody in return.

I think part of the lack of traffic comes with the fancy widget. I usually ignore thats that flashy. They don’t fit the website they’re on, which usually indicates an ad or something else.

I removed it yesterday. Great idea, but it seems only blogrush will benefit from selling a few of the spare spots to advertisers. All links point to blogrush, so there is no SEO benefit there and there isnt enough people paying attention to it. Blogrush have said you need to make more interesting titles, but that doesnt always work.

I get the impression that people are thinking it will solve their traffic (or lack of traffic) problem. Several thousand impressions doesnt calculate to be an extra 7000 readers. Only 1 or 2 out of 3000 will click through and only 0.1 of them will become regular readers.

I removed it too, I served the widget thousands of impressions but as I expected the CTR was extremely low.

    They added new colors today…

They’re also adding some kind of bonus system for smaller blogs. Maybe service will improve…

They are also attributing the low CTR to abusers in teh network. They are working on that issue now. I’m going to give them a few weeks to work the kinks out.
