My First Pho
- 17 Comments... What do you have to say?

The menu is quite small only about 10 things were on it. A few appetizers and mostly Pho. Never having Pho before I went with the Pho Tai, which is raw beef with rice noodle soup. Ashley decided on the chicken with clear noodles (can’t remember the exact name of it). The Pho came out in really large bowls, I didn’t expect them to be that big. Also you were given a dish of fresh bean sprouts, jalapenos, and cilantro leaves. You can mix these into the Pho if you wanted. Here are pictures of the Pho Tai, and what Ashley got, after she ate all the broth!

After taking my first few spoonfuls of the Pho Tai I noticed that it was very bland. I was expecting something like a wonton soup taste. It was still good, just a little bland for my taste. I also tried Ashley’s and I like that a lot better. You could really taste the chicken flavor in the broth and the chicken pieces were really good. The clear noodles also tasted better than the rice noodles that were in my Pho. Even though my Pho was a bit bland for my taste I still enjoyed it. Nothing makes you feel better than a nice steaming bowl of soup! Each bowl of Pho was $10.

Me too never heard of it. I love noodles too. What is PHO stand for. From the picture looks like PHO is a Vietnamese noodles. Is that so?

Doesn’t stand for anything, “pho” is just Vietnamese for rice noodle, pronounced more like “fe”.

Even Vancouver might not have good Pho, but I may be wrong. Good Pho is in Little Saigon (vietnamese county) in Orange County, California. If you ever drop by, I could take you guys there. I don’t actually go there, but that will be the place to get authentic Pho.

As far as Pho Experts are concerned, if the staff isn’t a Vietnamese family hiding in the kitchen, and the name of the place doesn’t start with the word “Pho” it’s not authentic.
Look what happened to Bob. He paid ten bucks for Pho! I bet you that most of the staff spoke english too and tried to give him EXACTLY what he ordered the first time

I always find the way John tries out different types of dishes and writes about his experience interesting. As far as this old “dinosaur” is concerned, I am definitely not a big fan of such “experiments”, I stick to a few “proven” dishes, even though my better half always encourages me to try something new every once in a while.

Ten Bucks??? Woh, you got raped at your Pho! For Ten Bucks, that should include a Spring Roll AND a Vietnamese Coffee…followed by Pho Headache and Pho gurgles
The Pho Hoa on the way to the Airport would have been a better choice in Las Vegas.

Yeah, pho around Vancouver usually ranges from $3-$5 for a large bowl. We have a large Vietnamese community here so there are almost as many pho joints as there are Starbucks.

Mmm interesting. To be honest I’ve never tried Pho… I’ll be sure to check it out. (:

Thanks Leo for clarifying what PHO is? That means I’ve just learned my first Vietnamese word. So I guess when I’m in Vietnam I won’t be starving.

I have never tasted Vietnamese cuisine. But after seeing the pictures I would definitely love to try it. I like bland food, so I guess I should like this kind of cuisine.

Ten bucks for pho!? Geez…come to Vancouver for Dot Com Pho and we’ll show you what real pho tastes like. The broth should not be bland…
