My New Toy!
- 25 Comments... What do you have to say?

So after I got home and opened the phone up the first thing I realized is that it is a lot smaller than it looks in pictures and video. I actually thought it would be larger and thicker, but it isn’t at all. It is perfect size. Powering it up and activating was very easy (I was already an AT&T customer). Once activated I played around on it for a few hours. The interface is just amazing, at first I was not sure if I was going to like the idea of no buttons, but I really like the touchscreen. It only took me a few hours to get used to using the touchscreen keyboard and controls.
Besides just being a phone you also have mail, a web browser, and the iPod. Although Safari is horrible on PC, I was impressed with it’s capabilities on the iPhone. All of my sites look perfect on it, even the image popups work on the phone whereas they don’t work at all on the PC version of Safari, go figure. The browsing experience is the closest I have seen to a real browsing experience on a PC. The iPod is also very cool. I really like the ability to slide through my albums. Also the large screen really helps with song and playlist navigation.

A lot of people hate on the iPhone because they say it does not support 3rd party apps. Well I had no problem loading 3rd apps on the iPhone. There is a very easy to use installer that actually has a list of available apps and will download and install them directly on your iPhone. Another reason people don’t like the iPhone is that they say you have to have purchased music to make ringtones or buy ringtones. I also found another program iBrickr that easily let me put my own custom ringtones on the iPhone.

Overall I am very impressed with the iPhone so far and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a new phone. If you a skeptical about the touch interface then give it a try. You can check out the iPhone at any AT&T store on Apple store.

I could never go back - It’s so amazing and it’s so easy to use, sure the 3rd party SDK does need to come out, but it will in time. Apple made an amazing product and it’ll only get better in time like the iPod.

Oh, btw, I see you have AppTap installed, how do you like it? I need to try and install it again. I just want some sort of chat application and thats all I really need. Not to mention that meebo & iphone.facebook.com is an awesome way of getting people to develop web apps.

Lol, has it done that lately? I haven’t kept up on the iPhone lately.

Apparently the chances of it crashing increase with the number of 3rd party apps installed.

I guess I just don’t understand what people want to install on their iPhone. I have one and am very happy with it, but I would rather have the peace of mind that my phone won’t get bricked rather then have some app that I don’t find my self using all that often.
So here is the question: What is the killer 3rd party iPhone app?
there must be one, or at least a couple that make you say to yourself “yea it really is worth the trouble so that I can do THIS.”

That’s a cool toy you got there but it still lacks a few features that it shouldn’t.

Congrats on your new toy, but I still don’t see the point. I’m one of those old-fashioned people who only uses their phone as a phone, and not an MP3 player/web browser/IM terminal/GPS unit/lightsaber.

Just wait for the day the battery needs to be replaced. Anyway - it’s a consumer gadget and not a business phone. It always depends on where your main needs are. In general I think Apple products are overpriced toys.

I played with an iPhone at an Apple store and I was impressed by its ease of use and the screen. I wasn’t excited about the launch of the iPhone, but after playing around with one, I am tempted to pick one up for $299 now that the CDN dollar is on par with the US dollar.

Nice! Been thinking about one too, but moved to japan so I might consider the new iPod Touch instead, but there’s been talk about bad display on the iPod Touch. Is there any site (good one) with the latest iPhone news? I’ve found iphonefeeds.net, it has iphone feeds from different sources, kinda like popurls.
