Time To Reset

While at times it seems like everything is going smoothly in life there will always be and most definitely be rough patches. Sometimes when you think you have everything figured out life throws you a curve ball and like all things in life you have to deal with it. I have been through times like this before and I know that what I’ve had to do is completely reset.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” – Martin Luther King Jr.

So how can you reset? Here is what I normally do.

Take a break – Sometimes you are so stressed or you don’t know how to deal with a situation that you just need to take a break from it all. I have actually done this in the past month by traveling (which I will blog about soon!). If you can not travel or get away the best thing to do is take a couple of day off just to yourself. This will give you the time you need to do my second tip which is…

Clearly define your goals – If it has to do with business or its personal the time you take off should give you the time to clearly define your goals. You can make a list or just have it in your head, but you should know what you want to accomplish in life, what you want to get out of life.

Spend time with friends – This is a big one anytime you are going through something rough in your life. Friends are not only there to provide comfort, but also will give you a second opinion on whatever the situation is. It is also good to get another perspective on something.

Remember life is not so bad – When bad things happen to us it seems like life gets a little darker, but you have to realize it is not the end of the world. Your life will go on and you have a lot to look forward too, whether it is great friends, family or business. Remember there are millions of people in this world who have it much worse.

Make a plan and execute it – Now that you realize it is not the end of the world, you have taken a break to define your goals, and sought the advice of friends it is now time to make a plan and execute it. What are you going to do on a daily basis to get back to where you were? How is this time going to be different? Once you have a plan setup carry it out in a timely manner.

Remember to not get too comfortable, always challenge yourself, you do not want your life to just be average.
