I'm glad to see some people agree with me. A lot of people who are guilty of this deny it all the time!

Great article, Bob. I just recently made the transition from being employed to being self-employed. It definitely takes a "different" kind of person, one who is not happy to be employed in the traditional corporate structure. I am too independant and have too much on my mind to fool around working for anyone else.

That is the part that bugs me the most too -- people who will complain all day, but never do anything about it. The people I respect the most are those who have the power to change their attitudes and improve their life. You have the right attitude and I can tell you are going to succeed.

I have noticed that same thing Dave. In high school I had a friend who made minimum wage and complained about it constantly. Whenever I told him to quit and look elsewhere he would just say "this is just until I finish school". Five years later and he has advanced... from the Shop n' Save to the Giant Eagle (both Pittsburgh area grocery stores) up the street making $1.00 more per hour than he did in 2002 and he still lives with his parents with no real hope of moving out any time soon.

I really think that people like that have simply lost all drive to succed. People like that need to be just slapped in the face and told to go learn to be a plummer, electrician, medical assistant, highway worker, or SOMETHING!

If you don't like your situation, go to extreme lengths if you have to, but change it.

You are exactly right Bob, I struggle with being lazy sometimes too.

I had an old friend who was always complaining about his situatoin, how people would get fired from his workplace or leave and start somewhere else at a higher pay grade. I tried to encourage him to put out resumes and better his situation, but he just wouldn't do it...

Thats because most of the people are noobs who settle for what they can get. They are conditioned by school to be docile employees. They do not "strive for more" because they are just not looking for it. Don't waste your time helping people like that who are just not "into money" or not hungry. Also, they don't feel enough pain to want to make a sustained change - only they can help themselves. Deep down I'm sure rich folks who made it sure like making fun of them though. In the end we need people like that - we need good obedient employees.

I know I am guilty of this but I am also in college trying to better my situation. Although to be fair I have made a good bit of money online through various means, not enough to live off of but enough to be pay some bills which makes life overall less stressful.

I just get annoyed at people who constantly complain but are totally unwilling to do a thing about it. Not having any money to go to college/tech-school with can be a problem but there are a ton of low interest loans and grants you can get.

Plus if you really don't have any idea of what you want to do go get a Liberal Arts degree and find a decent job that gives you benefits, etc. Then when you figure out what you want to do go take night classes and get your specialized degree.
