Why Personal Blog Posts are Important

As most of you know this blog is not just about business, I talk a lot about my personal life on here too. The blog would not be called BobBuskirk.com if it was strictly about business. Actually I started the blog as a place to write down my thoughts and talk about traveling and other personal topics. Many blogs do not include personal blog posts, but I do think that they are very important to any blog out there.

Intimidation Factor
When you read a blog of someone who is highly successful there is an intimidation factor there. Having personal blog posts helps you to realize that they are just like you. John Chow has done a great job of this, especially with all of the videos he has posted on his recent trip to Shanghai.

Other Topics
This blog is mainly about making money online and starting your own business. Most of the people that visit the site are interested in those topics, but if they are not they might be interested in one of the personal blog posts. Just like my hockey blog posts, I have got comments from people who have never commented on the blog just on those.

A Look into Your Life
I always found that if you are open to a certain point you can connect with more people. I originally started this blog as part of ThinkComputers so my readers could see that I am a normal guy. By posting personal posts about trips, family, etc you give your readers a look into your life and they are able to connect with you. For example if I was talking about a bad experience at the airport someone might have had the same experience and would comment on the post.

Ahhh, I recently did a post about how blogs aren’t used as diaries anymore since every blogger is trying to make money, but I guess there are a few like you that is keeping things simple with life posts :)

I 100% agree with you Bob. I chose a long time ago that making money on my blog wasn’t my top priority, and that entertaining people with things that I found entertaining would be best. However people do want to first know who you are no matter what the blog, and I agree it does as they say put a name with the face, and as I know you and I both hope keeps people coming back!

Personal blogs tend to humanise the experience. One feels nice that the person you are dealing with also lives a life with problems similar to the ones faced by us.

nice post. I’m starting a blog now for the same reason that you originally started your blog (to show the visitors of my websites a little bit of what goes on in my day to day life and what other sites i am working on).

Also the latest trend is transparency with businesses, and a blog is the perfect way for a web developer to be transparent with their users.

This is probably my 5th time I have tried to start blogging, so wish me luck. Hopefully this time works out because all of the other times I haven’t had any sites with a real userbase, but now I have a pretty solid userbase on one of my sites. I think having comments will be a nice motivator to keep posting.

All valid points and it looks like you are doing the right thing judging by how many readers you have.
